Fire leaves three dead
by (AthensNewsWeb) 18 Feb 2012
Three men died from a fire in a motorcycle repair shop on Saturday. According to preliminary estimates of the fire department, the narrow space as well as the difficult access to the exit trapped the three men in the basement of the shop in Vyronas.

From the evidence gathered so far, it appears that the three men, aged 30 to 35 years, worked in the repair shop, which is housed on the ground and basement floors of the building, one floor of which is still under construction.

The shop had the blinds lowered when firefighters arrived at the scene and was already covered in very dense smoke. The fire broke out in the basement and, according to neighbours, explosions were also heard.

The officers of the Fire Department estimate that the three men were unable to come out in time when the fire broke out, because the space is narrow and the only available exit was a small staircase.

The identities of the victims of this tragedy have not yet been confirmed, while the causes of the fire are under investigation.
