Pavlos Yeroulanos will stay on as minister of culture and tourism, despite offering his resignation in the wake of last week museum robbery at Ancient Olympia.

Prime Minister Lucas Papademos met with Yeroulanos on Wednesday to discuss the armed robbery and said that he had rejected the resignation offer.

Yeroulanos, whose brief also includes sport, is also at odds with football authorities who oppose a new law boosting state oversight of club ownership in an effort to combat corruption in the sport.

Earlier this month, Papademos also rejected a resignation offer by Transport Minister Makis Voridis after the right-wing Popular Orthodox Rally (Laos) pulled out of the coalition government.

Voridis has since joined New Democracy along with another Laos rebel. (Athens News/gw)
