Roy Carroll came off the bench to save a penalty in his debut for Olympiakos to give the Greek club a valuable away win against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League.
Carroll blocked a spot kick from Bibras Natkho in the 76th minute, at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, were temperatures were -13C.
The 34-year-old Northern Irish keeper had come on seconds earlier to replace first-choice goalkeeper Balazs Megyeri who was sent off for his penalty-area foul against Rubin's Gokdeniz Karadeniz.
Olymiakos absorbed pressure from the Russians and went ahead in the 71st minute when David Fuster fired the ball through defenders to beat Rubin’s goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis. Olympiakos will host Rubin at Piraeus' Karaiskaki Stadium on February 23. (Athens News, gw)
