Award-winning film director Theo Angelopoulos was laid to rest at the First Athens Cemetery on Friday afternoon, in the presence of friends, relatives, associates and ordinary citizens.
The funeral service held at the Agios Theodoroi Church was officiated by Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos and the Archbishop of Albania Anastasios.
Wreaths were sent by, among others, President Karolos Papoulias, Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias, all the party leaders and the French ambassador.
Angelopoulos died late Tuesday at the age of 76 after being seriously injured in a road accident hours earlier while shooting scenes for his new film The Other Sea in a tunnel in the Drapetsona district of Piraeus. (AMNA , Athens News)
